Virgin Mary and Child

The icon of the Mother of God, carrying baby Jesus in her arms, who holds the open scroll (a strip of papyrus or parchment rolled on wooden cylinder, used to inscribe the Divine Service and the reading of blesses by the priest) constitutes the icon of the Mother of God known with the periphrastic expression "soothe my sufferings". It is a copy of a 17th century icon housed in Moscow, at the Saint Nicolas church and is elaborated on wood with tempera. It is commemorated on February 7, on the Fasting day of Saint Gregorios the Theologian.
