According to the Gospels, a crown of thorns was violently placed on the head of Jesus during the events that led Him to the Calvary and His crucifixion. The crown of thorns is one of the instruments used to torture Jesus, which they placed on His head in order to inflict pain but also to ridicule Him before the eyes of all those who until that moment praised Him.
