Saint Taisia

In Egypt at times of asceticism, a young girl only 17 years of age and famous for her beauty became a prostitute pushed by her own mother. The young girl who knew only the road of immorality and lived the life of a prostitute, was being exploited by her lovers and her mother and the people feeling sorry for her. Abba Serapion learned about her life and prayed for her. Dressed as a venerable elder he went to meet her. She was awakened and enlightened by him and emotionally she burned away all things related to prostitution and followed a righteous path.

For three years she cloistered in a monastery living as an ascetic and praying for penitence. The Abba who felt her repentance went to find Saint Antonios and asked him if Taisia’s repentance was received by God. One of his pupils, Paul, attested in his vision that God received Taisia’s penitence so the Abba informed her that God has approved of her. Fifteen days later Taisia, happy passed away.

Her memory is celebrated on October 8.
