One journey, many stations. One route, many believers. Many steps, one goal: To spread the words and the work of Jesus Christ. This route from Jerusalem to Rome through Cyprus and Greece, which Apostle Paul followed "uniting" Central Macedonia, Italy andCyprus, will be submitted by a delegation of the District of Central Macedonia to the Council of Europe, in order to be certified as a cultural route entitled “In the footsteps of Apostle Paul”.
The route was mapped out virtually by the District and follows the footsteps of Apostle Paul having as ultimate goal the interconnection of three regions out of which will emerge a product of cultural and historical interest that will boost tourism in all the areas that Apostle Paul passed through.
The institution of Cultural Routes was launched in 1987 by the Council of Europe and up to now includes 32 cultural routes with various objects - themes such as religious, artistic, archaeological and historical. The only cultural route that has so far joined the program from Greece is the “Routes of the Olive Tree” in the Peloponnese. The dossier of this candidacy is prepared through the Interreg Europe programme (with the contribution of members of the European Council) which also helps in the organization of training seminars for the executives who surround the institution of cultural routes.
